I’ve been working on a TV ident for the past couple days. I decided to do a spec piece for the Cartoon Network, mainly because R&D into developing my own station ID/ Brand was too time-consuming and I don’t want to spend more than 2 weeks on this piece.
This piece consists of two parts, the first dynamic block bounces and then the transition in to the logo. I used spline, delay and random effectors for the logo piece. The bounce piece mainly used rigid body tags. Where the transition from the blocks to the logo uses Thinking Particles, I encountered a ton of problems, the main one being the logo losing it’s selection tags during the TP transition. I decided that I will scrap most of the scene and start over with a pure 100% Mograph Dynamics solution. For now, i’m staying away from Thinking Particles until I understand what’s going on.
Since I modeled the blocks and logo myself, the biggest problem is that I did not give my models enough subdivisions. More subdivisions would have meant a more fluid TP transition and also perhaps no errors with the selection tags after the thinking particle transition. By the time I realized this, it was too late and going back to add subdivisions was tantamount to ‘starting over’- something I wasn’t willing to do given the time I had to work with. I’ll post the final rendered piece up soon.
