A brief scare: I thought I lost 2+ years of my blog posts when the database went awry but my host provider was able to restore the database via their backup server so my blog is back!
My webpage is going through a redesign. I will be storing all my videos on Vimeo as it will be much easier and quicker than hosting these videos on my own domain. I may switch over to WordPress or I may decide to go over to Cargo Collective, will be testing both versions to see which one is more suited for my taste. I don’t try to code everything myself anymore because I realize my time and energy is finite. I need to channel my focus on my writing and animation (that doesn’t include my other hobby- running).
2 weekends ago I ran my first ultrarun, the Can Lake 50 upstate at Canandaigua Lake. The scenery was absolutely stunning and running the beautiful course really brought some clarity to my mind. We started at 6am in a torrential downpour, where it stayed pitch black and rainy for the first 2 hours. Eventually the weather cleared up to reveal some very gorgeous landscapes. I completed my run in 9 hours 59 minutes and 23 seconds. I was hoping to finish in under 9 hours but I underestimated the hills. My goal is to run the course in under 8 hours next year. Running the first 42 miles wasn’t bad, I was still feeling good until the last 8 miles. Not only were my knees and ankles shot, I was extremely hungry. I have made a note to myself to EAT at every aid-station in future runs because the only thing I did for myself the first 24 miles was to only refill my water bottle with the occasional energy gel. That energy deficiency eventually caught up to me around mile 40. The first week after the run, I was shuffling around like an old man and I could barely walk. The second week in, my legs are back to normal but I have crepitus in my right shin muscle. I am hoping that I’ll be able to resume my training after the weekend.
Here are a few pictures (not flattering pics but when was the last time you saw a flattering picture of an ultrarunner?):
More runs scheduled in the future! Will keep you guys updated for those runner friends of mine.
Also working on a new project.. will stay mum for now but it’s very exciting! 😉
