A frame of my reel header/footer. Note that this is a render-test, so anti-aliasing, final-lighting, post and other final touches haven’t been addressed. I rendered out a quick frame to check geometry, composition and lighting. I added smoke, which is proving to be the render hog. Without smoke, I would have the reel header/footer complete now. In it’s 14th hour, the renderer has only completed 40 frames. The entire project is 260 frames. I have done enough test renders to be satisfied that this will be a final render. A couple more days and my new reel header/footer will be complete!
Below is a quick render-test of the initial concept. I was trying to invoke the vintage noir feeling of old neon signs. After the render tests proved that the renders would be intensive (particularly the Sub-Surface Scattering required for the light box), I decided to settle on a more simple solution you see above.
