Robopig Update

Here are the nearly complete modeled characters as defined by the concept art.  This is a rudimentary pre-viz snapshot of the models, as I need to correct the proportions, apply the correct textures, create the real scene, etc. The larger style of the animation may not look like this because Elena and I are still discussing what kind of look we want.  I will model out a different version of Robopig so he has round eyes that pivot within his eye sockets. I believe the challenges of trying to rig the current eyes will lead to headaches later on, so I want to model a pig with a more ‘robotic’ look. Elena and I might like the newer version and decide to go with it, so we’ll see how Robopig turns out. The chicken legs need to be redone, as not much care went in to modeling the legs.

After I correct the models, I will proceed to texture the models. I will texture two different version of Robopig, one realistic and one cartoony. You might have noticed that Robopig has no texture and it’s because I haven’t started painting the texture maps yet. Chicken has basic blinn and lambert materials applied to him. I will probably have to paint texture maps for Chicken too because we decided to include wings and that means detail.

We began talking about how to apply our proof-of-concept project in the most efficient way, and we’ve reached an idea. I’ll be sure to post more details later.

I decided to stick with polygon modeling instead of nurbs modeling.  I am more comfortable with polygon modeling for now, and addressed my previous issues with polygons by simply increasing my poly count.  It makes it alittle more ‘heavier’ but it’s also quicker.

So in a nutshell, 1) rework models, 2) paint and apply textures, and 3) work with Elena on developing the direction of the project and 4) work with Elena on creating additional assets and concept art for the animation.
