Because my reel header is still rendering, I figured I might as well finish a piece that was never finished. I think I will be able to finish this piece in 2-3 weeks, just in time for me to include in my newly updated reel.
This was a spec. piece for the Rose Bowl 2010 that I decided to stop, mainly so I could free up my creative juices for a paying project. Note that I took the liberty of choosing USC and ND for the sake of the piece. In no way, am I implying that these teams ever played the 2010 Rose Bowl.
I finished modeling and texturing the assets that I will need.
I plan on adding clothe tags to the banners and using a dynamics solution instead of manually key-framing the banner animation.
Megaphones will be used as ornaments for the presentation, but I will include an emitter to spew the celebratory ticker-tape.
I rendered the grass using the hair tags, and ended up with 2 million individual hair counts. Obviously it’s not enough and I may need to double or triple the hair count, but increasing the hair count will result in exponentially increased render times, so it’s a fine balance of speed vs. what I can visually pull off.
The character, I designed, modeled, rigged and textured myself. I will use the characters as the ‘dynamic’ action for the scenes.
Right now, the project looks anemic because I am presenting the project assets individually, but the next process now involves constructing the scene with all the separate elements working and behaving with one another.
I may need to model extra assets like a goal post and football helmets, but I will decide once I have a working animatic to preview the overall creative concept.
